Free Backyard Composting Workshops

Learn from the experts how to turn your garbage into gold for your garden! You'll discover the different methods of backyard composting, how composting conditions the soil for healthy plants, and how you can save money and water. Reservations are required and can be made online at the Solana Center for Environmental Innovation, or by calling 760-436-7986, extension 222.

All workshops at the San Diego Zoo are held on Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. in the Otto Center (1 block south of the zoo's main entrance), located in Balboa Park at 2920 Zoo Drive, San Diego, CA 92101.

Master Composter Training Course

Become an expert in composting, meet new people and participate in interesting events, all while serving your community. The Master Composter course provides training in the art and science of composting, soil management and how to teach it to others. Certification depends on class attendance and completion of 30 hours of community outreach. People of all ages and abilities are encouraged to apply. A $30 materials fee will be collected at the first class session. Register for the course online at the Solana Center for Environmental Innovation, or by calling (760) 436-7986, extension 222.

Classes are held in the Auditorium of the Ridgehaven "Green Building" at 9601 Ridgehaven Ct., San Diego, CA 92123. The course will be taught on Tuesday evenings from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. on April 8, 15, 22, 29 and May 6, 2008.
