Eliminating Lead Poisoning in San Diego
Childhood lead poisoning is the number one environmental health problem facing children today. Unlike many diseases, lead poisoning is entirely preventable. The Lead Safe Neighborhoods program serves as the primary liaison for connecting the community with resources to prevent lead poisoning. We are working with a collaboration of agencies dedicated towards eliminating childhood lead poisoning through:
The San Diego Healthy Home Collaborative
The San Diego Healthy Home Collaborative is a FREE government funded program that is available for City Residents to improve the health and safety conditions of their home. This program incorporates a holistic approach towards eliminating health and safety issues in the home to prevent injury and illness from occurring. Common Areas that the program addresses are:
- Control lead-based paint hazards
- Control of environmental asthma triggers
- Medical resources for children with asthma
- Elimination of cockroaches, rodents and dust mites
- Elimination of mold, allergens and other asthma triggers
- Free smoke alarms and other home safety equipment
- Attic insulation, gas water heater repair or replacement, refrigerator replacements and the installation of compact fluorescent lamps
