Street and Alley
What if the main in my street (alley) is the only one in my neighborhood that is going to be replaced?Sometimes, a main that has had specific problems with leaks, blockages or breaks, will be added to a Group Job that is already in the design phase. How long will the contractor be working on the street in front of my home or the alley behind my home?Generally it takes the contractor 2 to 3 weeks per block to replace the sewer or water main. Usually weeks or months after the sewer main is replaced, the water main is then replaced. When will I have access from the street to my home during construction and emergency?Pedestrian access is rarely affected. Vehicular access may be interrupted temporarily during working hours (usually 7:00 am to 4:00 pm). The contractor is required to allow emergency access to all homes affected by the construction zones. When will I have access from the alley to my home during construction?Because of the limited work area of alleys, they are generally closed from 8:30 am to 3:00 pm during construction but are accessible after. What will be done to repair streets when the construction is finished? If the condition of the street is poor, it will receive an asphalt overlay. If the condition of the street is good, it will be slurry sealed. Both the overlay and the slurry seal will be for the full width of the street. What will be done to repair alleys when the construction is finished?Alleys are generally concrete and the trench will be covered with a concrete cap. If the alley is asphalt, it will be repaired in the same manner as described above for a street. |
