Permits and Field Inspections
When do I need a permit?Any work being done within the City right-of-way requires an Engineering Permit. Permits are also required for land development projects. Where do I obtain a permit?Permits may be obtained at the permit desk, Development Services Center, 1222 First Ave., in downtown San Diego. Land development permits and any permit requiring engineering drawings should be submitted to Development Services. For more information on Land Development permits, call (619) 446-5200. Who do I call for inspections? All projects/permits are assigned a resident engineer who will be the single point of contact for the project/permit. When should I request an inspection? The resident engineer should be notified before work starts on your project. He/she can inform you of what inspections are necessary and when you should schedule them. A minimum of 24 hours notice is required. Generally, the resident engineer will be in the office between the hours of 7:00 a.m. to approximately 8:30 a.m. for direct communication. Voice-mail is available to leave messages otherwise. Resident engineers check their messages at noon for afternoon needs. The front desk can be called and a resident engineer is paged for emergencies that cannot wait for next day communication. How do I get an inspection scheduled and find out who my inspector is?Contact the City of San Diego Field Engineering office at (858) 627-3200. Have the following information available: Permit number, address of work. Who do I contact regarding questions about construction going on in my area? For questions related to issues such as: dirty streets, construction work blocking driveways, detours causing traffic problems, construction crews starting too early or working too late, problems with too much dust, etc. Contact City of San Diego Field Engineering office at (858) 627-3200. Be prepared to provide an address or nearest cross-section for better assistance in locating the problem. |
